Who is she?
Melany was born in Bucaramanga, Colombia. Coming from a family that was not particularly musical, she still always found her way back to music. From a very young age, her parents encouraged creativity and the exploration of various forms of art.
She began playing piano at the age of seven, initially receiving classical training. However, she had to stop at ten years old. After that, she started teaching herself and developing her own unique style of piano playing. Later on, driven by curiosity and the COVID-19 lockdowns, she began producing her own songs.
Her musical influences have always been diverse. Her father introduced her to music from the ‘80s and Hispanic singer-songwriters. As she grew older, she discovered jazz, electronic experimental music, and fusion—genres that reshaped her approach to songwriting and musical style.
At thirteen, she started doing musical theater and received formal vocal training, which deepened her love for the creative world of performance. Around the same time, she continued developing her production skills and started experimenting with her singing style, inspired by artists like Björk and lesser-known musicians such as Ben Levin.
She began writing songs more seriously later on, heavily influenced by Esperanza Spalding and contemporary experimental Latin American songwriters like Leo Maslíah. Her goal is to create music that is both unique and accessible, much like the artists who inspire her.
Now she studies at Berklee College of Music and is majoring in Electronic Production and Design with a focus on Contemporary Writing and Production.
